Don't preach, just love - November 20, 2017 - Rancho Cucamonga

My dear Mommy Mom,

Wow thank you for sharing that from stake conference with me. That is beautiful!!!! I love that!

I love the picture from the baby shower! I'm so happy for Spencer and Gentry. They will be incredible parents.

That phrase is from a talk and I just use it because I love it!!

I always keep Preston in my prayers. I love him so much and I am grateful every day that I have the amazing brothers that I do. I can't describe how much my family means to me.

Last week was absolutely crazy!!! Appointment after appointment fell through. It was rough. I had hoped for a week full of miracles and success for Sister Weir's last week. She didn't let it phase her. She was always just grateful to be doing missionary work no matter what. Her love for the work is something I will never forget.

Despite the crazy week, the temple trip was amazing! Many of my questions were answered in the Celestial room. How blessed we are to have the amazing work that is done within the temple. My heart pondered on the joy that new converts must feel when they enter into the House of the Lord for the very first time to do baptisms, endowments, or being sealed to their family. I want that for all those whom we contact. I don't remember where I heard it but this was suggested to me sometime out here in the field to picture those you meet in white. It truly helps you see the potential that these children of God have.

So, I do have a new companion! Her name is Sister McCombs! We were both trained in Apple Valley and were in the same zone. My first day in the field we did service as a zone and she was there. We instantly hit it off and swore we would be companions one day and look at where we are now!! She is a fantastic missionary!!!! She will be a single Sister Training Leader. So, she will have the leadership over the sisters in the valley. But that means I will have opportunities to be going on many many exchanges with all the sisters!! I'm so excited for this transfer!!!!!

We had the privilege of watching the Face to Face broadcast with Elder Oaks and Elder Ballard last night. Every time we have things like that and also conferences, it's like a holiday for the missionaries (A spiritual thanksgiving!). We get to indulge or "feast up the words of Christ" from his own representatives. The most profound thing to me that I heard from the broadcast (I don't remember who said it but I believe it was Elder Oaks) was "Don't preach. Just love." Yes, we are called to preach the gospel but the word "preach" sometimes has a negative connotation to it. For example, some people will tell us "we don't need you preaching to us. We have our own faith." They may have the impression that we are trying to shove our religion down their throat or "preach" to them or to "call them unto repentance". Sadly, that is the impression that a lot people get when they spot 2 missionaries. I don't blame them for not wanting to hear our message if that is what they thought we were out here to do.  That is not who we are. Love is the solution. It is part of our baptismal covenant. We as members of the church can all play a part in erasing that image away. They have really been emphasizing the huge significance that love has in the work of salvation. Love is something that is felt. When people feel that sincere love that we have for them, then that is how they will recognize us as true representatives of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The church's "Light the World" Christmas initiative is coming out soon!!! This time of year is the perfect time to practice sharing our love to God's children as we remember to give thanks and remember the birth, life, and legacy of our Savior.

Keep trying. Keep trusting. Keep believing. Keep growing. Heaven will be cheering you on today, tomorrow, and forever.

I love you to the moon and back!!! Have a great week!!

Love,
Sister Allred

Baby shower for Gentry and McCall!

From Mom:

We had stake conference last night and today. It was wonderful. Pres. Almquist talked about his experience in receiving inspiration regarding the theme for the conference. He and his wife, Jill, were on a flight somewhere about 2 months ago, and he was on their iPad, but it started to crash, and he was trying to fix it. At some point, it flickered on, and a scripture came on the screen, but then off again. Anyway, the scripture was D&C 136:4 & 11:

4 And this shall be our covenant—that we will walk in all the ordinances of the Lord.

11 And if ye do this with a pure heart, in all faithfulness, ye shall be blessed; you shall be blessed in your flocks, and in your herds, and in your fields, and in your houses, and in your families.

Pres. Almquist said that when the scripture came on the screen he knew it was the theme for the conference. Isn't it amazing how the Lord works in our lives. And we have to be ready to receive inspiration. Anyway, he talked about how simple the promise is, that if we will walk in all the ordinances of the Lord, we will be blessed, in our flocks, herds, fields, houses, and families. Which just about covers every area of our lives.

All of it is so profound to me. Anyway, I felt the spirit very strongly in Stake Conference. What a beautiful experience. I loved this quote by Pres. Monson: "To find real happiness, we must seek for it in a focus outside ourselves. No one has learned the meaning of living until he has surrendered his ego to the service of his fellowmen. Service to others is akin to duty, the fulfillment of which brings true joy.”

Pres. Nielson (1st counselor in the stake presidency) invited us to "Stand up and take your place in the kingdom."

Wow, that is an amazing invitation. I realize that I need to do more each day, and listen more to the spirit, to study more, pray more, and serve more.

We are so proud of you. We pray for you all the time. Doug mentioned that they pray for you and Kenny at every prayer. every day.

Be strong and of a good courage my beautiful daughter! May the angels be round about you to bear you up.

I love you to the moon and back.

Mommy Mom
