Light the world - December 4, 2017 - Rancho Cucamonga

My dearest Mommy Mom,

I had a wonderful week! I'm glad you were able to enjoy Thanksgiving!! How's grandma doing? I sent her a letter and I also sent Preston one. I am working on a letter for you too😊

Last night we were able to watch the Christmas devotional and it made me think of my wonderful mommy mom!!! I miss you!! Sister McCombs LOVES the Mormon Tabernacle Choir! Such a tender mercy for me because she is the first companion who has actually liked it, let alone LOVE IT! We always listen to the "Consider the Lilies" album because it is both our favorite!! That album is my favorite because it really reminds me of you😊💕and it is so beautiful!!

So, we don't have much time for emailing today. But last week was crazy but super good as usual! I wasn't feeling too good all last week so we rested a lot. But you know, I know the Lord blesses His missionaries because somehow, we were still able to get work done!!

We were able to contact PLENTY of people thanks to this amazing "light the world" initiative!!! More than we have since I have been out! (We keep track of the number of people we contact a week and report on it) This one special family in particular that we contacted now holds a special place in our hearts.

So, last Tuesday we experienced this little miracle! We had a bit of a rough day that day so we decided to have companion study outside. We thought it might help clear our minds. Near the end of our studies a little group of 3 young girls came running towards the area where we were sitting. Their grandma and uncle followed after them. We quickly became acquainted and soon enough those little girls were asking us questions about God and Jesus! (Grandma and Uncle only spoke Arabic. I think we were supposed to be called to an Arabic speaking mission because this is the 3rd family we have had the chance to teach that were from the middle east!! haha!) It was so precious as their excitement increased as they were translating back and forth to their family members and telling them about our beliefs. Their mother eventually came out and joined us. She wants to learn! We have an appointment set to teach them tomorrow!!

So, I don't think that I mentioned to you about the push that the mission is taking about contacting people. We are expected to contact 10 people per day. What counts as a contact is if we have a positive experience with them and invite them to do anything that will help them come closer to Christ. Our contacting number was at 71 last night. We were meeting the goal for the mission but for some reason we didn't feel content with the number. We had 15 minutes left before we had to be in and we were brain storming on what we could do in a grocery store parking lot. We looked at each other and knew we were thinking of the same thing. Light the world!!! We got out of the car and started picking up a bunch of trash in the parking lot and putting away all of the shopping carts so the workers wouldn't have to! Super easy acts of service!! Here's where it gets good. People started asking what we were doing and why we were doing it. We gave them our simple answer. "We're lighting the world!" To our pleasant surprise, it was a perfect intro to the light the world initiative which means a perfect way to introduce the gospel! It was so cool! The spirit put a small little idea in our head to clean up the parking lot and look what happened! We contacted 8 people in 15 minutes! Now I don't mean to boast when I share our experience but rather bear testimony of the blessings that come from doing all that we can to be Christlike. I'm SOOO excited for this Christmas season! This is the perfect time to get in the habit of letting our light shine through selfless service. Let us do our part in "Lighting the World"!!!

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Mathew 5:16)

I love you to the moon and back my beautiful mommy mom. Thank you for helping me and supporting me on my choice to serve. I love this work more than I can even describe and what a blessing it has been for me that I have this chance to glorify my Father in heaven.

Keep trying. Keep trusting. Keep believing. Keep growing. Heaven will be cheering you on today, tomorrow, and forever

Love,
Sister Allred

From Mom:

I came across a short 4 minute video clip from the church film, "Mr. Kruger's Christmas. I'm including the link. I don't know if missionaries are allowed to watch it, but it is from a church film. Anyway, Preston and I watched it together a few hours ago, and it is so touching. It encompasses everything about the true spirit of Christmas. I will probably watch it everyday this entire month!

Well, Spencer and Gentry are on the home stretch for their little baby boy! He is due Dec. 20th! Can you believe that? WOW! Gentry looks so cute. She is awesome. Final exams go until Dec. 15th, so they are hoping that he can be born between the 15th and 20th. But Spencer has talked to his professors, and hopefully they will be understanding if this cute little boy comes early! We will let you know, and we will send lots of pictures.

I listened to a talk by Bishop Christopher Waddell this morning. Such wonderful counsel that I always need to hear:

"In this mortal experience, we cannot control all that happens to us, but we have absolute control over how we respond to the changes in our lives. This does not imply that the challenges and trials we face are of no consequence and easily handled or dealt with. It does not imply that we will be free from pain or heartache. But it does mean that there is cause for hope and that due to the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we can move forward and find better days—even days full of joy, light, and happiness."

We pray for you all the time. Every prayer. Every day. Every night! Doug says that too. His kids love praying for you and Kenny!

I'm trying to get some Christmas things ready to send, but because of my flareup, I haven't been able to get to the store or post office. Please be patient with me.

Let me know if there is anything you need!

Be strong and of a courage my beautiful daughter. May the angels be round about you to bear you up.

I love you to the moon and back.
Mommy Mom
