A Tender Mercy - February 13, 2017 - Apple Valley

February 13, 2017

Dear Mommy Mom,

That’s so scary about grandma and dad. I’ve been praying for dad a lot. And this week I felt impressed to start praying individually for grandma. Now I know why. I love my family so much and I pray for all of you daily! I know whatever may happen, the Lord WILL provide.

This week was so good! I explained a little in the last email that it’s been really difficult to find people to teach mainly because we have been white washed in this area. But guess what...we have an investigator!! We met her through this super sweet lady in our ward. To make a long story short, she couldn't believe we would give her a free Book of Mormon (it was the cutest thing!), she told us right off the bat that she has been wanting to find the right church to be baptized in (we were freaking out haha), and next time we meet with her, she’s bringing her daughter. Were so excited!!!!!!!!!

We also met this really amazing couple. We knocked on their door and within a minute of talking them, they immediately invited us in (it was super windy). So we got to know them for about an hour, which was amazing. They have really deep questions about religion, and the husband is atheist. But for some reason they want us to keep coming back. A few visits went by and we weren't getting anywhere with them. So our last visit I told them that we would love to keep coming back, but we can’t come back unless we teach you something. And surprisingly they still want us back! They would be AMAZING members of the church. They just have that spirit about them. And we refuse to give up on them!!

Okay so I have a pretty crazy story. A couple days ago we went tracting. After a while we finally met someone who was interested. We talked with him at his door for about 20 minutes answering his questions. At the end from our visit he asked if he could have a Bible. We didn’t have one on us so he asked if he could stop by the church building to grab one on Sunday. We said "absolutely!" so Sunday rolls by and we completely forgot that he said he would stop by. We honestly didn’t think he would come but he did! So we got him a Bible but I felt a strong impression to not let him leave without a Book of Mormon even after he repeatedly told us that he "knows" that the book was just made up by some random guy. Anyways we talked to him for a while before sacrament meeting and answered more of his questions. This guy has been through heck and back. It would take way too long to explain everything but this guy is a fighter. We could feel something special about him. Anyways so the whole time we were talking, the spirit was working very strongly through both of us. I know the gift of tongues is real. We wouldn't have held the slightest conversation with this guy if it weren't through the spirit. He is a child of God and ALL of God's children deserve to be given a chance. So back to the Book of Mormon thing, I felt strongly that if we didn't get him to accept the Book of Mormon, he wouldn't get another chance to receive one. It took a lot of explaining but because we had the spirit with us, he finally accepted the Book of Mormon. It was crazy. One of the members from our ward couldn't believe that we got him to take the Book of Mormon. It was seriously the coolest experience!

So enough craziness!! Mommy mom! This little experience was such a tender mercy! Okay I think I mentioned to you that one of the recent converts in our ward is a concert pianist. She’s like 70? By the way were teaching her the recent convert lessons. Super cool!!!  Anyways so on Saturday night, she held a little concert at the retirement home she lives at and we went. We love going there because the old people always say that we just "glow"! All the elderly people love us!! And we love serving them and hearing all their stories. Okay so Debbie put on her little concert for everyone at the retirement home. Mom it was so special. Besides the MTC, I don’t think I had ever felt the spirit so strong in my life. She wasn't even playing hymns. Through half of the concert I couldn't hold back my tears. It was kinda embarrassing. But it was just something that my spirit was thirsting for about a solid month! We grew up constantly hearing the piano going at our house and I didn’t even notice how much classical music feeds my spirit.

Well that’s all I got! I love Heavenly Father and I love my Savior Jesus Christ. He is the reason why I am out here. I am so grateful for the guidance of the spirit. I’m grateful for Joseph Smith for restoring the perfect Gospel of Jesus Christ here on the earth. I’m grateful for the blessing of families! I love this gospel more than anything and I love being a missionary. The church is true and the book is blue!

Love, Sister Allred
